Steven Lukasik

Q: What inspired you to choose the path you are going to follow after high school?

A: I’ll be attending the university of Michigan to continue my academic and athletic career. Why I choose Michigan it’s because I was born in North Detroit and pretty much all of my family lives there still. So I have pretty good connections to Michigan. I was born and bred to be a Michigan fan. Michigan has a good engineering program and very good gymnastics program. So it is something that I could strive for and push me to where I wanted to go. I joined my school STEM program and my interest in engineering just kind of to flourished while doing that I absolutely loved. I have been training in gymnastics since I was 6 years old. I pretty much strive to become part of the Michigan Men’s Gymnastics team. It has been my biggest goal for the longest time and I finally achieved it when they offered me a scholarship back in October and I will become part of the team in November.

I’m planning to be a Civil Engineer as of right now but when I get to Michigan we have to go through Engineering like 1st year courses so we don’t have to declare specific fields right away. We never know it might change.

Q: Tell me a little bit about your family, do you have any siblings?

A: I have a sister, her name is Stephanie and she is graduating from Florida Golf Coast University pretty soon. She is getting her degree in Hospitality Resort Management and she has a minor in theatre. She will be continuing her grad school this fall.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in North Tampa, and what do you love there?

A I like Sacred Pepper.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve meet here in Tampa?

A: My coach Billy West. He’s one of those people that can take a rough team of guys and turn them into amazing gymnasts and respectable men. He has dealt with a lot of disrespect. I like the way he handles it all and it’s something that I just strive for.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?

A: I would definitely go to Hawaii because my family had vacation there back in 2014 and it was one to the most beautiful places that I had ever seen. The whole vibe was amazing, relaxed and it was indescribable.

Q: What is your one of your favorite movies OR TV shows currently?

A: I would say my favorite movie is Star Wars episode 3 The Revenge of the Sith. I think it was like the master piece of the movie I’m not usually a big Star Wars fan but I absolutely love it.

Q: Who is your favorite Character in the Star Wars movies?

A: Anakin Skywalker.

Q: What would be your best piece of advice from a teacher and who is that teacher?

A: The best advice came from my middle school Latin teacher. Just recently the seniors at my school had our last day of classes and he reached out to all of the seniors. He was talking about back when we were leaving 8th grade, when he asked us where we wanted to be when we grew up and continue to talk about that we should never relent and give up our passion. That he believed in our goals. It was a nice feeling and a good piece of advice as we left the school.

Q: Are there any plans like a prom after the whole COVID thing is over or there is no talk of that?

A: They are trying to do their best with everything. They are trying to save graduation as the highest priority on the list and we asked them about prom. They said like that’s something that would be really hard to do. We have probably close to 200 kids in the Junior and Senior class that would go in. Its kind of hard.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: I want to Zip line, I have never quite got there yet but that’s one on my list. I also want to do Sky diving and I want to try that once as well.

Q: Do you have a music band that you like or music group?

A: I definitely love 3 doors down. I used to play guitar and learn all their songs. It just good old classic on my mind and I love to listen anytime.

Q: Choosing anyone alive and a non-relative with whom would you love to have lunch? Why and where would you have lunch?

A: I would like to sit down with President Trump because I read his book The Art of the Deal just to pick his brain in different aspects of his life. I think that would be something beneficial for me because I also want to pursue a business minor law in Michigan. I think that would be valuable information for me in my future.

Q: What is your favourite thing or something unique about North Tampa?

A: Everyone here is kind of relaxed and has a chill vibe to them, at the same time having a hard working personality. I haven’t met anyone lazy.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?

A: I see myself retired from gymnastics and starting my life without athletics, getting a job, maybe opening up my own gymnastics gym or working in a civil engineering firm.

Q: Are you watching any shows right now?

A: I’ve actually been watching the Star Wars Clone Wars on Disney plus back when we went on spring break and once everything was cancelled, I just kept on going.

Q: When this thing is over, what is the first thing you want to do?

A: I definitely will party with my friends because I didn’t get the spend the final senior year together. It’s a tradition in our school that all the seniors on their last day of high school we got into the parking lot and paint our cars, celebrate a BBQ for lunch and the administrator calls out our name in the gym in front of the whole school. We didn’t experience that. I didn’t those moments with my friends . I would love to make up as much time a possible before college.

Q: What is your favorite holiday?

A: I definitely love Christmas because every Christmas my family and I go back up to Michigan and spend time with family. It’s nice because I don’t get to see them as often, I will in the future but it’s been nice having Christmas back in Michigan with my family.

Q: Who inspires you to do better, who’s that motivator for you?

A: My parents for sure because they work too hard and have given me all the opportunities I could ever need. Having them work that hard for me just inspires me to be great.

Q: If you could go back over your school career what is the 1 thing that you would do differently?

A: I would definitely go back and attend all the head masters challenges at my school because every year there is 1 day that we play our rival school Berkeley in all of the winter sports. Every single sports played that day, I’ve only been to 1 which was this year and it was a fantastic experience. I wish I could go back and experience the ones I’ve missed.
