Questions:

Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?

A: My career started with United Airlines until I got to college. The first year I was basically working at the airport as an agent. After that I got on the training field, stayed in that field for most of my career with United starting out with original school and going to that corporate training center. In the corporate training center, I got involved with swaps skills, it’s like interpersonal skills, management skills, leadership skills, sales and sales training. I worked with managers, supervisors. In fact with that career it got me a job with the St. Pete Colleges as adjunct professor for 3 years teaching corporate training center. Opportunity came up, a friend of mine who was a training manager to a company that sells school supplies and they’re looking for someone that will help train their sales force which was about 350  Rep sales. Before that, I became a sales expert. I remember my first sales experience, I was living in the Bronx and  it was a snowy day in Winter time and my dad shovel. I started knocking on doors to ask people about shoveling their driveway. Year 1999, I officially retired from United Airlines and the day after I retired they hired me as their sales consultant for few years. After that, I relaxed for a while and went back to selling the  supplies for the school  from 2003-2006. Right after that I volunteered at SCORE (Service Crew Of Retired Executives) where we volunteer to help other entrepreneurs in either producing business plans, helping them in selling skills  or whatever business they’re interested in. It’s been 13 years now that I’ve been with them.

Q: How necessary it is knowing people in the community?

A: I think the connection we have in the city where I grew up is pretty much the same. The neighbors are friendly.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in North Tampa?

A: 21 Years. We still live in the same place and the same house we bought when we moved down here from Illinois.

Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?

A: This is a quote from the book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People of Stephen R. Covey,  one of them is“ Seek first to understand, then to be understood”. To me that means listening to other people’s ideas first and find out where that coming from before you talk about yours. I think today most people are too eager to express their personal ideas and not listening to others.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: I like to travel to China. I was there many years ago and I enjoyed it. And to be specific, I want to climb the Great Wall of China.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about North Tampa?

A: Geographically,  there’s so many things that we can do here mostly around. It offers a lot of places to eat, shopping, beaches – we have a little boat to take the Grand kids to fishing, there’s a nice walking and biking  parks. It’s much diverse here.
